Dababy’s comments regarding HIV have triggered many including Elton John, Madonna, Dua Lipa, and more.
The Ohio rapper who took the stage at Rolling Loud Miami on July 25 addressed the audience saying, “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS… put your cellphone light up… Fellas, if you ain’t sucking dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone light up”. This statement got the attention of many celebs and the LGBTQ community.
Popstar Dualipa who collaborated with Dababy for the remix of ‘Levitating’ was shocked by the rapper’s Homophobic comment. The ‘Love Again’ hitmaker posted an Instagram as a response. “I really don’t recognize this as the person I worked with. I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGBTQ community,” the singer wrote. “We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”
The Legendary singer sir Elton John took Twitter and responded to Dababy’s statement, he said: “We’ve been shocked to read about the HIV misinformation and homophobic statements made at a recent DaBaby show”.
Madonna also shared a message on Instagram as a response to Dababy’s disrespectful comment. “If you’re going to make hateful remarks to the LGBTQ+ community about HIV/AIDS then know your facts.”
“After decades of hard won scientific research— there are now life saving medicines available to children born with HIV, to people who contract HIV through blood transfusions, dirty needles or exchange of bodily fluids,” she wrote. “These new ARV’s can keep a person with AIDS alive for the rest of their lives!!! AID’s is not transmitted by standing next to someone in a crowd.”
However, Dababy took time to respond to the Root’s drummer Questlove. The drummer posted an image on Instagram with a list of superstars that he’d want to perform at a contemporary version of the 1969 Harlem festival Summer Of Soul. One of the names in list is Dababy, unfortunately it has been crossed out.
The rapper claims that he doesn’t know who the Root drummer is. “I ain’t even tryna be funny when I say… I do not know who dis nigga is dawg,” he wrote IG stories. “And I do not care ’bout losing you as a fan my boy lol @questlove. You or any other nigga who wanna play follow the leader. This superstar was a fan of is stand up nigga, yeen never seen one of these huh?”
