Taylor Swift will face a trial for her 2014 hit single “Shake It Off”.
A judge granted a jury trial for Taylor Swift for using lyrics from another artist’s song. According to the case filed, Taylor has stolen lyrics from the song “Playas Gon’ Play” and used it in her single “Shake It Off”.
The copyright lawsuit was originally filed by the group 3LW in 2017, unfortunately, it was dismissed at that time. Hall and Butler accused that Taylor has used the lyrics “playas, they gonna play” and “haters, they gonna hate”.
“Shake It Off” hitmaker tried to dismiss the case through her attorney, unfortunately, U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald refused to do so.
“Even though there are some noticeable differences between the works, there are also significant similarities in word usage and sequence/structure,” the judge wrote. “Although Defendants’ experts strongly refute the implication that there are substantial similarities, the Court is not inclined to overly credit their opinions here.”
